Falling for Firefly

I have a confession to make... I'm falling in love with Nathan Fillion! I have just started watching Firefly, and I LOVE it! I am so glad I chose to buy the complete series! I watched a trailer for it on YouTube and it looked good, now I am completely hooked! I am itching to search the net for more info and fansites of Firefly, but at the same time I don't want to find out what is going to happen next! Catch 22!

So I am now trying to resolve myself saving just some pictures and enjoying watching the series! I just don't want to risk seeing what will happen, but Nathan is just so gorgeous! I just have to have a gorgeous picture of him on my desktop wallpaper... sigh. I think I'm in Firefly Heaven!

New Sketch - Lady Hawkmoth

I've started my 'Lunchtime Sketches' again! Here's a new sketch I've just finished of a fairy. I've been looking at Amy Brown's art, and thought I would have a go at emulating her style of doing fairies and see how I did at it. So I thought about doing a sketch of a fairy dancing, I expected to do Amy Brown style clothing on her, with the striped tights that I love so much. But as I started drawing her, she seemed to take on a life of her own. I started thinking more and more how my fairy would dress, then how I wanted her wings - I've now discovered how difficult it is to draw the wings, trying to get them even in size and shape, and as symmetrical as possible. I've now decided that if they aren't symmetrical, not all things in nature are, so it makes her look more natural! :)

I love Hawkmoths, so used them as inspiration for the decorating of the wings. At first I was going to have the wings behind her, so you would only see the tips, but then I thought as she was dancing, she would probably have them out on show, a bit like a Peacock does when trying to impress a potential partner. So maybe this is the dance of love, and she is trying to impress a potential fairy partner?

I'm having fun inventing my own fairy world to play with!

Who Am I?

It's been ages since I've properly been posting on LiveJournal, so I thought I'd write a new Bio, introduce myself, and hopefully make some new friends!

What I'm Looking For: New friends, people I can bounce ideas with, and plenty of encouragement to write from like-minded individuals!

Catching Up

I've been catching up with my cleaning today, tidying up stuff that's been lying around a long time and I haven't done anything with it.  And it struck me that maybe I have so much stuff, I can't see the wood for the trees.  I've bought action figures still lying in their boxes, intending to unpack them and put them on display.  I have a room box full of miniatures I intend to unpack from their bubble wrap, arrange them nicely and display.  As an artist, I have many pictures I've started and never finished.  But I intend to, one day.

Well I thought, why not have a Catch Up day?  Why not choose something you've been meaning to finish, but never got around to it, and finally do it?  Take a photo of before and after, and write what you've done.  If we did this once a week, we'd soon have something completed!  Here's my Catch Up list:

  • Resident Evil Room Box Trailer
  • Gargoyle Picture
  • Read my Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi - The Time Of My Life autobiography I've been meaning to read since I got it
  • Read The Wind Is My Mother, a book about a Native American Shaman's life.
  • Plan and Cook a meal for my family
  • Create a website just for me, not promoting anyone else but me, who I am, what I do, what I hope to do, and what my music and movie tastes are.

Anyone else want to join in the Catch Up Day

Hello, Haven't been here in a while!

Wow, I haven't been on here in quite a while!  I have been blogging over on my Blogspot and neglecting LiveJournal for a while.   I've been trying to concentrate on my art and my writing, and I stumbled across a link from Selina Fenech's Facebook profile to a Sketchfest by EMG on LiveJournal.  I love the idea of spending a day doing marathon sketch sessions, especially when they have prompts to help give you inspiration and prevent you from running out of ideas that day!

So what have I been doing?  I started a sketch a day which I started well, but haven't quite kept up!  I would like to start that again, as I do think it helps, and gives me plenty of options for pictures to work into a completed piece I can be proud of!  Plus it gives me ample opportunities to challenge myself and improve my skills.  Here's a couple of pieces I did for the sketch a day, the first one is of a spaceship I did from a book, Awesome Things to Draw, which I found quite easy having step-by-step instructions, and I love how it turned out.

The second drawing is an attempted portrait of the character 'Blair' from Terminator: Salvation movie.  I really struggled with her, but think it turned out ok for a sketch of her.  Practice will make perfect, and people are my artistic nemesis!

I hope you like my latest sketches, here's hoping I manage to do some more soon to show you!

Thanks for looking!

Backdated Entries & Fashion Sketch Art

I've just added some backdated entries, some going as far back as March, from my Blogspot Blog, Dreamspace, so you might notice some entries you haven't seen before! Just one about a cake I baked, and some about Alexander Rybak I seem to have fallen in love with since he won Eurovision 2009! I love that song and I love him!

I'll also be adding some new goals soon, as I'm wanting to focus more on my writing and drawing, even if only doing a little each day, I need to keep my practice up. I was looking at some Fashion Designer Sketches today, and I love how they are simplified figure drawings. I always struggle with my figure drawing, so might try some of these and see how I get on with them! Plus they look like they may not take so long to do, though looks may be deceiving!

These are some of the drawings I found on my internet travels for inspiration:

Hope everyone's having a fabulous Bank Holiday Weekend! :)

Look Cheesecake!

I have been wanting to learn how to make cheesecake, when all of a sudden I see this blog post - showing me how to make cheesecake! Yummy! There’s even a link to these mini cheesecakes which look equally fun!

I think there may be baking ahead! :)

Enjoy!

Do you find your Spiritual Path helps you in times of stress? I’ve had a really stressful week, and many things just didn’t go my way. Today, I sat back and gazed out the window, looking at the sun streaming in, only then did I pause to think about nature, to remember that all things around me are magical and special, and all people and living things are special too. At that moment, that realisation, I felt all the week’s stress just flow out of me, and I felt so relaxed. Suddenly none of the week’s stress mattered anymore, it was minimal in the grand scheme of things, and I felt so much better.

Has anyone else felt like this?

What Age Do You Act?

You Act Like You Are 19 Years Old
You are a teenager at heart. You don't quite feel like a grown up yet, but you don't feel like a kid.
You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

You're quite rebellious, and you don't like being told what to do. You like to do things your way.
You have your own unique style, taste in music, and outlook on life.

I'm not sure how good this is, I'm actually 27, so is this great that I'm young, or does it mean I'm immature?  LOL!
